Huge new ship to arrive at Naval Station Everett Friday

USNS Montford PointA ship you haven't seen before, the USNS Montford Point is scheduled to arrive Friday morning at Naval Station Everett.

The new Military Sealift Command ship, which left San Diego on July 12, is the Navy's first mobile landing platform -- a sort of mobile pier out in the ocean.

It's about the length of two football fields, but not quite as long as the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.
