No sense in not building the subs ourselves

Collins class submarineWhenever I am asked why we should build submarines in Australia, my short reply is that we can't afford not to. The longer answer revolves around three central themes - national security, cost and nation building.

Setting aside false perceptions, in reality we have built and maintained one of the most capable conventional submarines in the world.

Australia is a first-world economy that needs and can afford a first-class defence capability.
