Removing Britain’s nuclear deterrent from Scotland if the country votes for independence will cost taxpayers £25billion, it has been claimed.The SNP insists Trident will be removed from the Clyde if Britain is broken up, leaving the Ministry of Defence the task of finding a new base.
The MoD says it has not made contingency plans for a “yes” vote, saying it is confident Scots will vote to remain in the UK.
