A Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) Apache combat helicopter landed on a Royal Netherlands Navy ship, the Hr. Ms. Rotterdam, for the first time in the North Sea port of Den Helder yesterday.
Based on British and French combat helicopter operations from ships during Operation Unified Protector against Libya last year, the RNLAF and RNN are examining the suitability of operating Dutch Apaches from the RNN's two amphibious ships and future support ship, the Karel Doorman.
The landing on the Rotterdam is part of a first testing phase focusing on technical and logistical support of Apaches on ships.
