Air Force to restart competition for supply of aircraft to Afghanistan

[A-29 Super Tucano]The Air Force will allow two companies to submit new bids for the contract to supply Afghan forces with a new light attack aircraft.

The Air Force said Tuesday it expects later this month to issue an amendment to the original competition that will spell out the deadlines and terms for the revamped procedure.

Hawker Beechcraft Corp., of Wichita, Kan., and Sierra Nevada Corp., of Sparks, Nev., competed in the first round for the contract, then valued at $355.1 million. Both companies are expected to submit new bids.
