Weapon test set to launch Saturday

Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missileAn unarmed Minuteman 3 missile is set to launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base early Saturday morning, some seven months after the latest test ended in failure.

The launch is one of two tests with dummy warheads that are planned within a week from Vandenberg, with the second set for Thursday, March 1.

The tests are the first since July 27, when the launch of another Minuteman 3 ended with mission flight control officers at Vandenberg observing an "anomaly" and issuing a command to destroy the vehicle.
