Two warships laid down in St. Petersburg

Steregushchy on the Neva in 2009Two warships, a frigate and a corvette, have been officially laid down at Severnaya Verf (Northern Shipyard) in St. Petersburg, VOR correspondent has reported.

It’s the first simultaneous lay-down of two ships since the Soviet collapse. The third Project 22350 far sea zone frigate and the sixth Project 20385 corvette are being constructed as part of the 2011-2012 State Armaments Program and will join the Russian Navy fleet in 2015-2017.

The new ships were given traditional names. The frigate was named “Admiral Golovko” and the corvette – “Gremyashchy.”
