A total of five Russian military aircraft flew near Japanese territory on Wednesday, prompting the Air Self-Defense Force to scramble fighter jets, Defense Ministry officials said Thursday.The Russian planes consisted of two Tu-95 strategic bombers, two Su-24 reconnaissance planes and one A-50 airborne early warning and control aircraft.
They flew over the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan off Hokkaido and the Tohoku region in northeastern Japan from around 9 a.m.
