Naval Station Rota to Receive Aegis Destroyers

“The alliance is significantly booting combined naval capabilities in the Mediterranean,” said Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

The Department of Defense announced that Naval Station Rota will house four aegis class destroyers by 2015. The ships will bring new capabilities to Rota, as well as new challenges.

Current estimates speculate that the new ships will increase the base population by about 3,200, effectively doubling the population on base of service members and families.
