Defence chiefs have been forced to write off more than £6.5billion worth of military equipment in the wake of the Government’s strategic defence review, figures have revealed.Details buried in the Ministry of Defence’s annual accounts reveal significant write-offs relating to valuable equipment being scrapped earlier than originally intended.
Others relate to money wasted on payments for new equipment and services that will now never get to the front line, as a result of last year’s review.
