Assurances over jet fighter deadline

F-35 Lightning IIThe global defence company Lockheed Martin has reassured the federal government that this year's planned test flights of its F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) are running ahead of schedule.

The general manager of the F-35 program at Lockheed Martin, Tom Burbage, held talks with the Minister for Defence Materiel, Jason Clare, in Canberra yesterday.

Afterwards, Mr Burbage told journalists that the government ''is very focused on schedule''.
