These faded jets were planned to transform Britain’s aerial defences with state-of-the-art radar and surveillance equipment.But thanks to a Coalition decision blasted as ‘disgusting’ by its critics, the Nimrods are heading from the runway to the scrapyard.
The jets cost an eye-watering £445million each to build yet before they reached operational capacity, the Government move to axe the spy planes will now cost taxpayers an estimated £200mllion.
