HMS Cumberland faces scrap heap

Type-22 (Broadsword) classDefence Secretary Dr Liam Fox has announced that the ship will be withdrawn next year.

It will be decommissioned along with HMS Chatham, Campbeltown and Cornwall. They are the Royal Navy’s last remaining Type 22 frigates.

Also being scrapped is the Navy’s last aircraft carrier, HMS Illustrious.
