South Korean navy ship sinking after collision

Chamsuri class patrol vesselA South Korean navy ship was sinking off the country's southwestern coast, with two of the 30 sailors on board missing, after it collided with a fishing boat, a media official at the defence ministry said on Thursday.

The 150-tonne vessel collided with a 270-tonne fishing boat some 5.4 nautical miles northwest of the island of Jeju at around 10:50 p.m. (1:15 p.m. British time) on Wednesday, said the official, who did not want to be named.

He said 28 of the 30 sailors on board had been rescued, without elaborating on the fate of the fishing boat.
