The Future of CFB Esquimalt


As another Remembrance Day fades into the history books, one of the Capital Region's largest employers, CFB Esquimalt, looks to the future. The Navy Centennial honoured the past, showcased the current and reinforced the need for the navy in our future. As we near the end of 2010 Maritime Forces Pacific has a lot to look forward to.

"This is a really exciting time," says Commodore Peter Ellis, MARPAC Fleet Commander. The future holds a lot for members of the Navy at CFB Esquimalt. From new equipemtn to new goals, Commodore Ellis says MARPAC is ready as it looks forward.

The modernization of the Halifax Class frigates begins in the summer. Five of Canada's 12 frigates are based on the west coast. Described as the workhorses of the surface fleet, HMCS Calgary will be the first of the frigates to undergo upgrades.
