Scrapping the RAF's Nimrod spy planes is a 'risk' because it weakens Britain's defences, defence ministers admitted in pubic for the first time tonight.Defence Secretary Liam Fox expressed concern over the Government's controversial decision to axe the entire £3.6billion fleet of nine new reconnaissance aircraft.
And Armed Forces Minister Nick Harvey said abandoning the 'spy-in-the-sky' aerial surveillance planes would leave the military with a 'capability gap'.
