Wirral forges links with first of Britain’s 21st century subs
Wirral is forging ahead with plans to develop links with the Royal Navy's first 21st century submarine.
HMS Astute is one of four new powerful submarines and its 96-metre hull is coated with 39,000 acoustic rubber tiles which make her practically impossible for an enemy to hear.
So effective is the outer shell that there is no longer the need to put washing machines on special shock mounts, silence music and even not flush toilets while she's on a covert mission.
