US Orders Deployment Of Second Aircraft Carrier Off Pakistan

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72)United States Defense Secretary Robert Gates is reported to have ordered a second aircraft carrier into the Arabian sea off the coast of Pakistan to join a carrier already positioned in the area, a U.S. media report said Tuesday.

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) has been ordered to be deployed in the northern Arabian sea, in what is being reported to be a move to provide surge support for coalition forces in Afghanistan.

It will also provide support to existing maritime security operations in the region and for the draw-down of forces in Iraq.
