Families of crew killed in Nimrod explosion over Afghanistan win £15million payout

Nimrod R1Relatives of the 14 crew who died when their Nimrod aircraft exploded above Afghanistan four years ago have won damages totalling more than £15million.

The massive payout comes two years after the families first launched legal actions claiming the spy-plane crew’s human rights were breached when they were sent ill-equipped to war.

The Ministry of Defence hope the cash award will draw a line under the embarrassing episode, during which it was accused of ‘sacrificing safety’ to cut costs and forced to apologise.
