Last F-15s leave Langley

The last two F-15C Eagles at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia have leftThe last two operational F-15C Eagles left Langley Air Force Base in Virginia on September 1 as the airfield transitions to the F-22A Raptor.

For so long the home of the Eagle with the 1st Fighter Wing, the last F-15 unit, the 71st Fighter Squadron (the ‘Ironmen’), is scheduled to be inactivated on September 30.

"When the last wheels of the venerable Eagle leave the tarmac, it takes with it 34 years of airpower and an overwhelming record of 104 enemy fighters destroyed to zero F-15s lost," said Colonel Matthew Molloy, 1st Fighter Wing commander.
