Russia puts forward a new generation S-500 missile system

S-400 TriumphThe commander in chief of the Russian air force, General Alexander Zelin, said in recent days that the national system of air defense will be equipped with ultra modern air-ground long-range S-500 missiles, developed by technical department of Almaz-Antey, a Russian company specialized in weapons and very active in the production of anti-aircraft missile systems.

"These will ensure the missile defense of the country. But I wouldn't compare the S-500 with the ABM (American ballistic missile system), whose technical parameters are completely different", said Zelin.

This latest generation system is designed to intercept intercontinental ballistic missiles and for defence against Airborne Early Warning and Control-Airborne Warning and Control System, and against jamming aircraft.
