Pakistan Terror Probe Implicates Sarkozy In Complex Kickback Affair

Agosta-90BAn extensive investigation into a 2002 terror attack in Pakistan that resulted in the deaths of 11 French naval engineers has snared an unlikely suspect, French President Nicholas Sarkozy, albeit for an altogether different reason.

During the investigation, Luxembourg police investigators found that the May 8, 2002, attack was not carried out by Al Qaeda, as believed earlier. Instead, they believe the attack was a result of political rivalry between the right-wing politicians of France and Sarkozy is believed to have played a major role in instigating the infighting.

Newspaper reports suggest that in 1994, Sarkozy, who was then the budget minister of France, opened an illegal offshore company in order to financially support then-Prime Minister Edouard Balladur’s presidential campaign.
