A new South African air-to-air missile will be test-fired from a SA Air Force fighter jet within the next two months, Lindiwe Sisulu, minister of defence and military veterans announced on Tuesday.This defence department project entailed the local development of a fifth generation air-to-air missile intended for use on the SAAF's newly acquired Gripen aircraft, she told the National Assembly during debate on her budget vote.
The programme was co-funded by the South African defence department and the Brazilian Air Force and represented the first co-operative defence program under the trilateral India-Brazil-SA (IBSA) agreement.
