Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said nations should come together in the face of modern threats as he watched a military parade at Moscow’s Red Square on the 65th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II that involved troops from four NATO states.
“The lessons of WWII call on us for solidarity; peace is still fragile,” he said as he greeted a parade of 11,335 servicemen that included detachments from Poland, the U.K., the U.S. and France. “Only together we can withstand modern threats.”
Medvedev presided over the parade, the biggest in post- Soviet Russia and the third in a row to feature a display of military hardware, a tradition that had been dropped after the parade on Nov. 7, 1990.
