South Korea Lets Navy Ship Survivors Speak to Dispel Criticism

Pohang class corvetteSouth Korea’s military organized a press conference by survivors from the navy ship that sank last month near the disputed border with North Korea, seeking to dispel criticism it has covered up the investigation.

The sailors, mostly clad in hospital gowns, appeared before cameras today, 12 days after the 1,200-ton Cheonan split apart off the country’s west coast, leaving 46 dead or missing.

The press event was arranged amid complaints the military was banning survivors from talking about the March 26 tragedy.
