France won’t give up nuclear weapons

Nicolas SarkozyFrance will not give up its nuclear weapons because doing so would jeopardise the country’s “security and safety”, President Nicolas Sarkozy has said.

A virtual world where there would be no nuclear weapons… everyone would applaud that, but I cannot jeopardise the security and safety of my country,” Xinhua quoted Sarkozy as saying on the sidelines of a nuclear summit Monday.

I have inherited the legacy of the efforts made by my predecessors to build up arms as a nuclear power.
