
NATO has asked the Netherlands to stay on in Uruzgan with a smaller mission. Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen and Defence Minister Eimert van Middelkoop have sent a copy of the request to the Lower House.
The letter was sent to Premier Jan Peter Balkenende on 4 April. In it, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen gives an assurance that another country will take over the leading role in Uruzgan from the Dutch.
