The Trident replacement programme must be scrapped and the billions of pounds saved pumped into improving public services and eradicating child poverty, an MP has claimed.Independent MP for Blaenau Gwent, Dai Davies, said replacement plans should be immediately dropped and taxpayers’ money should be redirected to “socially useful investments”, including more cash for local authorities, and the Haiti disaster fund.
The Trident system is carried on board Barrow-built Vanguard-class submarines. BAE is hoping to build successor submarines in Barrow.
