High-tech shipyard opens in Adelaide

A defence precinct for building new-generation submarines and ships will be officially opened in Adelaide on Monday.

South Australian Premier Mike Rann said the opening of the Techport Australia facility was the start of a new era for the state.

"It's the site from where $8 billion worth of the Royal Australian Navy's new air warfare destroyers will be produced and launched," he said in a statement.
