Beirut may seek U.S. military aid

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman is expected to discuss military aid during his U.S. visit next week as lawmakers in Beirut debate the right to resist.

Suleiman is scheduled to arrive in Washington on Dec. 12 to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama and other top officials to discuss bilateral ties. The issue of military assistance is expected to top the agenda, Lebanon's Daily Star newspaper reports.

Washington is a key supporter for the Lebanese military, which is struggling to increase its viability in the wake of the 2006 conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
