Portsmouth Naval Shipyard welcomes USS Helena

USS HelenaThe USS Helena submarine and her crew arrived at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on Wednesday for extended maintenance including several system upgrades.

The Helena, a Los Angeles Class submarine homeported in San Diego, carries a crew of 18 officers and 126 enlisted personnel.

According to the shipyard public affairs office, the Helena has earned a reputation as a "front line" fast attack submarine and has completed numerous exercises and nine Western Pacific deployments.

  1. A huge crew! Australia could never crew these or the Virginia's even if offered them at low, low prices.
