Boeing's P-8I deal with India set to roll

P-8A PoseidonBoeing Co. appears set to move ahead with its $2.1 billion defense contract with India to supply eight P-8I long-range maritime reconnaissance planes to the Indian navy to safeguard the country's vast coastline.

The contract comes under the new enhanced Indo-U.S. strategic partnership highlighted by a bilateral defense pact for modernizing India's military signed last month during U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit.

The pact's end-use monitoring clause complies with a U.S. law calling for inspection to ensure U.S. technology does not pass on to third parties.
