Sonar companies combine to become biggest in Canada

CH-148 Cyclone Maritime HelicopterA Newfoundland company has become the largest manufacturer of sonar equipment in Canada after it combined forces with a Cornwall, Ont., firm with established connections to military forces around the world.

Marport Canada in St. John's has just purchased C-Tech Ltd. of Cornwall and is looking to expand that firm's workforce as it seeks new international military contracts, says Karl Kenny, Marport's president.

C-Tech is a top supplier of advanced sonars for a number of navies while Marport builds various sensors and communications gear for the commercial fishing industry, offshore energy companies and the military sector.
