New destroyers for Northern Fleet

Sovremenny class destroyerThe construction of a new class of Russian destroyers will start no later than 2012, Head Commander of the Russian Navy Vladimir Vysotsky maintains.

-We will start the construction no later than 2012, Admiral Vysotsky said to journalists in late June.

The vessels will be based in the Northern Fleet and in the Pacific Fleet, RIA Novosti reports.
