The Navy plans to acquire 40 new surface-to-air missiles for its Aegis destroyer by the end of 2010 at the earliest, the Defense Ministry said yesterday.The missiles-SM-2s-are to be loaded onto the 7,600-ton Kim Sejong the Great, which is South Korea's first Navy destroyer equipped with the Aegis combat technology.
Officials denied earlier reports saying the missiles would be acquired by the end of this month.
