The navy's three new air warfare destroyers have moved a step closer to construction with two companies announced as the preferred suppliers of the modules that will make up the ships' hulls.The Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) Alliance has selected NSW-based FORGACS Group and Cairns-based NQEA Australia Pty Ltd to build 70 per cent of the blocks at a cost of about $450 million.
AWD Alliance chief executive officer John Gallacher said the selection of the two preferred suppliers was a major milestone in the $8 billion project.
