RAAF's Wedgetail future on the line

Boeing 737-700 AEW&C (Wedgetail)The future of the RAAF's $3.45 billion Wedgetail airborne early warning and control (AEW and C) aircraft project is on the line.

Defence is soon to receive a series of reports which could lead to cancellation of the troubled project, now running three years behind schedule.

Should that occur, the loss to the Commonwealth would dwarf the disastrous Seasprite project, cancelled last year at a cost of $1 billion.

    It will be in the tradition of Australia's RAAF and DMO to delay a decision and muddle through for 2 or 3 years.

    Any decisive decision to end this experiment would surprise all - as its only $Billions in taxpayers' money being spent. Ongoing bonuses for Wedgetail program execs would end if the program is ended.
