The new boss of Britain's main submarine construction yard and programme has outlined his agenda and vision, highlighting the multi-billion pound Astute Class submarines as a stabiliser in the Barrow shipyard's future. John Hudson, the new leader of BAE's Submarine Solutions said in a letter in BAE's newsletter that "Delivery of Astute is key to the business, key to the Royal Navy, key to confidence in the UK's ability to design and build nuclear submarines."
He added that getting the four Astutes on order to sea had to be the key focus not only of the dockyard but the company in general. With the final work being completed on Astute, the sub is expected to begin sea trials this summer.
