The United States is considering offering Israel the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) anti-ballistic missile system instead of continuing to provide financial support for the Arrow-3 system being developed in Israel, the Israeli news site Ynet reported.This is due to planned cuts by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. defense budget.
The land-based Arrow-3 system is the latest version of the Arrow system intended to intercept ballistic missiles from a greater distance than the Arrow-2 system, which is standard in the Israeli Air Force.
