Kazakhstan purchases air defense missile systems from Russia

S-300 air defense missile systemKazakhstan has signed a contract with Russia to purchase from it 10 S-300 PS air defense missile systems, according to news reaching here from Astana.

"We have recently signed a contract with the Russian Federation on purchasing S-300 PS systems and will continue this process," Kazakh Defense Minister Daniyal Akhmetov was quoted as saying by Kazahkstan's Kazinform news agency.

He announced the deal at a meeting of the Coordinating Committee under the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
