Cherry Point Air Station could get as many as 11 squadrons of the F-35B Joint Strike Fighter jets under one of the five preliminary alternatives being evaluated for East Coast basing of the aircraft.With each squadron, there is the potential for new jobs and economic benefits to the community, supporters say.
"Conservatively, one squadron has an estimated economic impact of $30 million to $35 million," said Hugh Overholt, a spokesman for Allies for Cherry Point's Tomorrow.
