Royal Navy heads to Gulf, Mediterranean

HMS Richmond will relieve the HMS Lancaster for deployments in support of Operation TelicThe British Royal Navy dispatched two of its frigates for maritime operations in the Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf, the Ministry of Defense said.

The HMS Richmond and HMS St. Albans left their port at the Portsmouth Naval Base Monday for duties in the Persian Gulf and Mediterranean, respectively.

"HMS Richmond will depart on Monday ready in all respects to make a genuine contribution to the security of the Gulf region," said Cmdr. Mark Southorn.
