Sweden Backs Gripen NG

Sweden's commitment to investing in the next generation of Gripen has not waned after Norway's rejection of the multirole fighter, Defense Minister Sten Tolgfors said.

"The Swedish government still has confidence in the export potential of the Gripen, and we will continue to invest. Gripen remains in full contention to win contracts from countries that have yet to decide on future fighter selections," Tolgfors said.

The Swedish government will provide funding for the development of a fifth-generation advanced Gripen. The initial order is likely to be for up to 10 planes.
