Raytheon IDS pulls in $165M Naval contract for torpedoes

Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, the Andover-based unit of defense giant Raytheon Co., has won a $165 million contract from the U.S. Navy to supply 192 MK54 lightweight and 228 MK48 Common Broadband Advanced Sonar System (CBASS) torpedo upgrade kits. The contract calls for engineering and support to be provided as well.

In addition, under a foreign military sales agreement, Raytheon IDS will supply the Royal Australian Navy with 19 CBASS kits and the Turkish Navy with 100 MK54 torpedo kits.

Development of the torpedoes under contract will be conducted at the company’s Torpedo and Readiness Center, located at the Seaport Capability Center in Portsmouth, R.I., and at the U.S. Navy’s NUWC Division in Keyport, Wash.
