Norwegian frigate sent to show the flag

One of Norway’s new frigates is on its way to Svalbard in the Arctic for the first time. It’s being sent in order to show Norway's presence and wave the flag.

In Norwegian defense circles this is seen as a significant event, although Navy is eager to emphasize that this is a routine mission.

The Royal Norwegian Navy ship "Otto Sverdrup" was commissioned in April this and will be one of five new "Fridtjof Nansen"-class frigates built in Spain for the Norwegian navy.
