BAE to test unmanned spy plane

A PILOTLESS spy plane could finally start flying from Walney airfield next week. (weeks starting 20/10)

Staff at BAE’S Warton site near Preston, which builds the Herti aircraft, said the programme was originally to start trials on the island in September, but has been delayed for technical reasons.

Herti – which stands for High Endurance Rapid Technology Insertion – is the size of a small manned glider and can be preprogrammed to take off and complete six-hour surveillance missions by itself.
