Hanit naval vessel tests Barak missile

President Shimon Peres sailed on Tuesday morning aboard the Navy's Hanit battleship, which was hit by a Hizbullah-fired Chinese missile in the Second Lebanon War.

Since its return to service last December, the ship took part in two successful operations, and last week it successfully test-fired a Barak rocket, part of an Israeli-made anti-missile system.

Maj. -Gen. Eliezer Marom, the Navy's commander, told Peres the missile test was successful and the target was hit. The Barak missile system was designed to defend naval vessels against enemy missiles and aircraft.
