US Coast Guard expands Ocean Sentry role

The US Coast Guard is steadily expanding the operational role of its growing fleet of Ocean Sentry maritime patrol aircraft.

One of its eight delivered HC-144As - redesignated CN-235s - joined the emergency response to heavy flooding in the US Midwest region in early June.

The USCG also dispatched one of its aircraft earlier this year to respond to another emergency. On 20 February, an HC-144A on a training flight was diverted to participate in a search and rescue mission following a mid-air collision between two US Air Force Boeing F-15Cs, which then crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. One of the two pilots was rescued following the mishap.
