Moscow 'deeply distressed' over missile shield deal: Medvedev

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev slammed the United States over its plans for a nuclear missile shield in Europe, saying the deal to install part of the system in the Czech Republic "deeply distresses" Moscow.

Medvedev, who made the comments Wednesday following the G8 summit in Japan, said there would be a response, but didn't specify what it would be.

On Tuesday, the United States and the Czech Republic signed an initial agreement to begin basing part of a U.S. intercontinental ballistic missile shield in the former communist country.
