Lockheed Martin says Aegis test successful

Lockheed Martin Corp. said Monday its Aegis Fire Control System launched a Standard Missile-6 and guided it to intercept an airborne target during a US Navy test at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico late last month.

The Aegis Fire Control System is part of the Aegis Open Architecture weapon system that will be installed on Ticonderoga-class cruisers as part of the Navy's cruiser modernization program.

The Aegis system was developed at the Moorestown, N.J., operations of Bethesda, Md-based Lockheed.
